Quote: Jonathan Swift

Good or bad I have this habit of using one brush when I'm in photoshop to make patterns like this one. Most of the time I make the brush insanely large, like 1000pt, and build on my design. This one was very minimilist bleach effect. I've liked working with the wet media paintbrushes preinstalled into my photoshop.

Update: Autumn

Autumn is officially here! Things have been insane with school right now but I've learned so many design tricks from my publications that I can't wait to share.
One thing I learned below is that there are "popular" colors and you can just google something like "color of the year" or season or whatever and get amazing colors. Before I'd use a site called Kuler from adobe, on it you could create pallets from a color wheel or browse other peoples pallets. I like the finding popular colors because I know they'll be accepted well if that makes sense. Quite often in the past I'd choose a set of colors and do my whole project only to put it on my site and not like it. Anyway the color of the year is jade so I thought it fitting to do the autumn poster.
Here's another tip that may seem very obvious. Spell Check. I had made a poster that I was particularry proud of and made it the background of my computer at school. Two weeks after someone finally told me about a misspelled word. The poster is down and I have a new wallpaper to say the least.
Anyway, I'd like to apologize for my absence the past month. Somehow between work and school and publications I forget to do the things I love most, designing.

iOS 7 Review and update

We were all sitting in Photography yesterday afternoon. One of my table mates said something along the lines of "14 hours?!". We were all trying to download the new iOS for our phones while gaffer taping shutters over our pinhole cameras.
I woke up this morning with my update for both my phone and ipad and I'm in love. Everything from the way you swipe apps to the way you close apps has been thought out. I love the use of transparencies like the one at the bottom, they make the phone seem incredibly mature and modern. The built in apps have become very minimalist, especially the newsstand one and photo album, another design leap forward into the future. I predict that third party apps will begin to mimic the nature of the new iOS by getting rid of shadows on their icons and simplifying design of both their logo and interface.
My photo teacher mentioned that the entire system was girly, but as I put on my feminist pants let me counter. New York Times says Women are becoming more and more predominant in the work place and are soon to become the primary bread winners. With that said I think many things will change in our daily lives because of this socioeconomic shift, large ones like football and hyper-masculine sports will become more popular but also small ones like our phones looking "kinda girly" as my photo teacher said.

Photo Editing Project: Color Wonder

Here's another photo from my good friend Kaitlyn. The composition of the photo was amazing but it looked a little dull as far as colors went. I decided to go super tropical and turn this into a windows screensaver with some really vibrant colors. I may have overdone it a bit but I think the image still looks natural.

T-Shirt

Here's a T-shirt design I made for the three publications at our school. We didn't end up choosing this one but I still like how it turned out and thought I'd share :)

Update: Back to September

School has officially started! I kinda feel like I never got a summer because of all the summer classes I did but either way I'm still really excited to be back in classes. My senior year is insane, I'm only taking one core class (Advanced Placement Environmental Science) and all the rest are electives plus an off period. Initially I didn't want to have an off period but I figured it would give me time to blog and work on my publications.

This month's calendar is back to school themed! Be sure to check it out in my printables tab or click the picture above!
