Quote: Jack London

Here's a quote from Jack London, he's another author I've read in school and really enjoyed. I used InDesign for the words and frame then Photoshop for the subtle background distortion.

Photo editing project: Curve Ball

Hello everyone! Here's another photo editing project I've been doing with an image from my amazing photographer friend Katlyn. Honestly it's getting hard to find things to edit on her pictures because they're so good. So I thought I'd practice mostly skin editing this time around.

Here's a close up of the work I did. I used a lot of dodge and burn on her headband and shirt to bring out the white as well as on a few features of her face to make her eyes pop.I played around a lot with layer masks to make all the work I did stand alone instead of on many layers. I like how it turned out.
Thank you so much again Katlyn for the pictures.

Here's a shortened quote from the book "The Outsiders" we read it in junior high and I loved it. This was done completely in Illustrator.

Illustrator Project: Quidditch Logo

I started a quidditch club at my high school last year. It's one of my favorite sports and I really hope I'll get to play in college. When we first started out I had my friend Rachel draw up a logo for us.
I scanned the image and put it into Illustrator. Then I used the pen tool to create the black outlines. I did this on a new layer and downed the opacity of the original drawing.
Next I went in and added the gold and red. I went in and added a radial gradient with white. The logo looks good but It looks a little flat.
The last step was adding shadows and highlight. Because the image is vector based I'll be able to increase the size without it becoming pixilated. All and all the project took me two days but I'm really happy with the results.

Photo Editing Project: Two of a Kind

I got these wonderful pictures from one of my very good friends Kelsey.  Her models are friends from our school: Charlie and Kimberly in the first and Rachel and Diane in the second.
In Charlie and Kimberly's image I focused a lot on the healing and clone tool (notice charlie's missing hand?) as well as the dodge and burn tools. Their makeup is beautiful and dark, the dodge and burn tools helped it to stand out. I also worked with the liquify tool (which was completely foreign to me) to pouf the girl's hair.
In Rachel and Diane's image I worked mostly with effects, most obviously the levels (the colors). The two really stand out against the darkened grass and it makes for a much more dramatic image. If you couldn't tell these two are twins and they did an awesome job at contrasting their outfits. I also added a radial blur on the grass to make a really cool effect.
Thanks again to Kelsey and her models, everyone really helped me practice.

Update: Let the college hunt begin

Hello everyone, I've been hard at work this summer. Appart from the designing jobs with my church and a charity, as well as the colossal planner project I set up for myself, I've also started the giant task of college searching. I did my first college visit today at TCU with my dad and it was a really great experience. Obviously I plan on majoring in Graphic Design (haven't decided on a minor yet) and I'm really eager to see what each college has to offer.

In other news I've UNINSTALLED InDesign! Yup it's gone. (probably not forever) I've decided to spend a lot more time on photoshop and illustrator. I'm getting more comfortable with PS but it's a big program. As far as illustrator I'm just getting my feet we but I've already got big plans. My first project is a giant vector image of my quidditch club's logo. It's going pretty well and I can't wait to show you the end result. Until then I'll try to keep up on the quotes and phone backgrounds.

Happy Fourth!

Happy Fourth of July everyone! Here's a quote from Elmer Davis, it originally said "This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave." The version I did is shortened but has no less meaning.
I hope you all have a wonderful safe holiday!
